I have compleated 1968 a ground up resot/mod. I replaced the brakes with a kit from stainles steel break sysstems. Not so great a kit as it has never performed well despite many efforts to improve it. I installed a stock 302 crate moter with a performer intake manifold/650 4 barrel carb and ford cast iron performance exhust manifolds. I rebuilt the auto trani and diff to stock and they work well but I have always wanted better performance from the power trane. I rebuilt the front suspension to stock except for stiffer springs and stiffer shocks. I bought 17 inch wheels. I forget the width but the are wider than stock. the look great but the car handles poorley and wanders about. I have had it allinged a number of times but all the shops tell me that it is in allingment. I am considering replacing the original front suspension with a spring over aftermarket kit. Do you have any suggestions for suspenion kit companies and would you recamend going to a larger engine or rebuilding the current 302 to increase its power. I have a background of shifter cart and motercycle racing and would like to auto cross or run the Cougar in events at thunder hill raceway while keeping it street leagle. Thanks for any advice...

One year and two months after I bought my beautiful beast (1970 xr7 3514v) I've restored the upholstery (that was in pretty good shape), repaired the engine and overhould the trans. and got the sequencial tail lights working, also the changed the brake lines and power steering houses, next week I'll start on the suspension, wish me luck, saludos desde Tijuana,Mexico.

I have a '69 hardtop disassembled in my garage, awaiting retirement to find time to finish it.

It's a original AZ car painted pastel grey with the 351W 2bbl /FMX power train and factory air.

I have a family friend that wants to get rid of a 1972 Cougar VIN 2F91H554113. I have not seen teh car but from what I understand, it hasn't been driven for years and the drivers side rear quarter is damaged.
It's got most if not all of the original parts, including hubcaps. The body has a partial vinyl roof and it was repainted black from the original gold color.

I checked out the VIN decoder and it has the base 351. Not sure about the transmission.

The car is located in SE Washington state if anyone is interested and she wants to sell it complete.

Thanks

I've had my '69 XR7 since 1983, hasn't been on the road since '86 or '87. I've had it stored mostly indoors, I am finally financially able to start getting ready to get it back on the road! I brought it back than from a used car dealer and don't really know alot about it. I was told I was the third owner and it was all original and the mileage was actual at 46,xxx, I never really drove it much at the odometer still reads under 50,000. Where and how is the best place to learn about my cat and where is a good place to find parts? I haven't started on it yet, but I'm sure I'm going to replacing a lot of stuff! Thank you.

Talk about unusual, i was browsing the cougar wrecks (1968 1), and low and behold, the red/orange cougar with the yellow lightning bolt (vin 8r91j523447) is my car!! i am currently restoring it in san diego, it is now powered by a dual quad 363 stroker and a 5 speed. gotta love the merc's! also the proud owner of a '69 boss 302 eliminator, a '90 factory supercharged XR7, and an '83 capri RS 5.0. cool site!
